Become a Mental Health First Aider
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) is an internationally recognised training course which teaches people how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental ill health and provide help on a first aid basis.
MHFA doesn't teach people to be therapists, but just like physical first aid, it teaches people to listen, reassure and respond, even in a crisis.
I am an independent Instructor Member of MHFA (England) approved to deliver adult MHFA courses. Open courses are available and I can also deliver in-house to 8 or more people (contact me for details).
I use my skills as a practising psychotherapist to bring the course materials to life, and my experience of working in senior management and leadership positions adds a pragmatic dimension to the learning experience.
How will attending a course help?
Research and evaluation shows that taking part in an MHFA course:
Raises awareness and mental health literacy;
Reduces stigma around mental ill health;
Boosts knowledge and confidence in dealing with mental health issues;
Promotes early intervention which enables recovery.
Learning takes place through a mix of group activities, presentations and discussions. The two day training is a practical skills and awareness course designed to give delegates:
A deeper understanding of mental health and the factors that can affect people’s wellbeing, including their own;
Practical skills to spot the triggers and signs of mental health issues;
Confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress;
Enhanced interpersonal skills such as non-judgemental listening;
Knowledge to help someone recover their health by guiding them to appropriate support.

Two Day Course
"If it were possible, I'd have Adam in our workplace every day! He brings a pragmatic, insightful and heartfelt approach and his passion for his vocation shines through."
Chief People Officer
My name is Adam and I deliver the two day course outlined above. I am a qualified psychotherapist, experienced facilitator and have worked in leadership and management positions throughout my career.
Whilst Mental Health can be a serious subject, I make all of my courses engaging and use my lived experiences of having experienced depression and anxiety to bring the materials to life.
Some of the MHFA course content can be emotionally challenging, which is why I prioritise making the course a safe space where people feel comfortable.
